So what do we mean by remedies for ADHD?
The remedies fall into 3 categories. Firstly conventional medication like Ritalin. This is known to subdue some behaviours but the side effects can be unpleasant and make other behaviours worse. A search on the internet will give you a profile of these side effects and in order to inform yourself further you might like to look at a very interesting film I came by recently:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWGhSVOIdxk&feature=related
The second category is known as alternative remedies. These are natural remedies which are taken instead of medication and thirdly there is Complementary therapies which are safe to take alongside conventional medicine as there is no problems with any drug interactions.
The problem with natural remedies is very little e research has been funded into this area as it doesn’t have the resources to throw into it like the profits from drug companies have.
As an educational advisor and consultant, I have spent 10 years into studying the effectiveness and researching the outcomes of natural remedies for ADHD. This work has won awards, media attention and commendations from OFSTED for its results in schools.
Having demonstrated the effectiveness of these natural approaches and devising a way in which families can measure improvements using this approaches which are so safe and simple and have no side effects there is another interesting development.
I have worked with a number of families who have been told by schools that their child will be unable to attend that school unless they take conventional medication like Ritalin. Some of these parents have been at their wits end not only in coping ith the behaviours but in the dilemma of not wanting their children to take such controversial medication. Of course they have been told they have no coice which under something called the ‘Parent’s charter’ they do have a choice to decide on the best treatment programme for their child. Often they are told there is no such choice which is misinformation – there are of course many choices of effective natural remedies which will alleviate and ease the ADHD symptoms.
But it would seem something more sinister is looming in the near future. Yesterday I was talking to a colleague who runs a homeopathic pharmacy and has excellent results with thousands of patients. In 3months time they may not be able to continue their good work, why ? Because of something called ‘Codex’ Check out this link:

It is going to impact 173 countries by the end of 2009.
I am currently engaged in research which will still maintain the freedom of choice of the families I know are being helped with natural remedies for ADHD

Good diets for ADHD start in the home
Diet and ADHD symptoms are linked and research throughout the years has shown this to be the case over and over again. Food is over processed today and much of the value in terms of nutrition is sadly missing by the time it reaches the plate on the table in front of the child. What this means is that the basic building blocks for healthy living for your child are also missing and one of the areas of health where your child will be able to communicate this imbalance is through their behaviour.
When the nervous system is affected, then it produces conditions like ADHD and recent advances in brain scans show this to the case in children who have a diagnosis of ADHD.
Dietary support for ADHD is most effective when it looks at removing certain food additives to which the child may be sensitive. Other people may also be sensitive but show their reaction in different ways for examples headaches etc. Then we look at adding good nutritional supplements and the quality of health supplements vary considerable. At one end of the scale we can look at the cheap end of the vitamin market available from most stores on the High Street. Unfortunately many of these contain the very additives that create problems for children with ADHD in the first place such as artificial sweeteners like Aspartame and colourings which are also know to have a hyperactive reaction with some children.
Nutritional products are best purchased from companies who have a reputation for their quality assurance this means each of their products carry a label on the ingredients which reads ‘minimum standard assay’ which is term that means that every bottle is tested to ensure it contains the right amount of ingredients that do the job. The source of their vitamins should also be food and the food needs to be organic and cold extracted which means the food is not heated to extract the vitamins. If this happens it loses its effectiveness to deliver what is needed. This production method from the cheaper high street brands which are often synthetically made from chemicals in the laboratory.
Take for example Vitamin C, known to support the immune system and protect from colds and flu etc. This can be produced form oranges that are grown in the right conditions, allowed to ripen in the sun and free from pesticides and processed into vitamin tablets shortly after they are picked to preserve the natural goodness. The other choice is to take the chemical vitamin C which is prepared in laboratories by mixing ascorbic acid and sodium ascorbate. You can see why the price of these products varies so much and why taking a programme of the cheaper vitamins will have little effect on your child’s condition.
The whole process of sourcing your food for the family to eat is also important as much of the natural goodness in food is destroyed through modern food processing techniques sourcing high quality food form local producers is extremely important.
ADHD and Diet are not the whole picture for this condition in children but it does fit a few pieces of the jig saw puzzle into place. More information on my research into nutrition please visit my website.

What is ADHD? - and your choices

What is ADHD ? Well the official definition is Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder but what does it all mean?
ADHD to a medical assessment officer means a condition in which the child they are presented with shows a certain number of symptoms on a certain number of occasions. These can be measured on a scale and include looking at whether the child is impulsive –this means that they do things without thinking of the consequences, also whether they are easily distracted from what they are doing and whether they are always fidgeting and on the go to mention but a few. If the child has demonstrated several of these type of symptoms over a prolonged length of time this means that they are classified as having this condition and parents have choices where they go from here…
ADHD to a teacher means that they have to face an unruly child that is not able to follow directions, keep on task, will distract other pupils and generally prove a disruptive influence to others. The child will be an extra drain on their energy as they battle their way through national targets as part of a curriculum based teaching approach. They are constantly coping with less resources time and support and there only recourse is to hope the school have some facility to remove the child from a classroom that they are not able to achieve in onto something called a school Action Plus plan and inform the parents….. Who have choices where they go from here…..
ADHD to a parent means being unable to plan their day in case the child is sent home from school when they cannot cope. It means not being able to go out for something as simple as a shopping trip because of the stares of judgment and criticism that their child will attract when the difficult behaviours kick in. It can mean that that other members of the family are blaming you as a parent for not putting the right discipline in place or right diet, or the right medication or whatever sanction they were exposed to as children… so the parent has choices where they go from here….
ADHD to a child means living l life in the fast lane at a hundred miles an hour but not being able to move forward, not having many friends, having uptight family members who never seem to understand and not being able to explain why to anyone – just feeling awful about always being in trouble. Being tired, feeling strange after eating certain things…. So the child has no choices where they go from here…..
ADHD to a HET therapist is an opportunity to help a child and their family try different approaches to tackling ADHD symptoms. Approaches that are also safe and so simple that they cannot do any harm but well over eighty percent of the time are extremely effective in getting results which create an improvement in behaviour for the child, improve their prospects of reaching their potential educationally and reduce the stress levels for the family.
ADHD to someone reading this article right NOW means that you have a choice of where you go from here……

How safe do natural remedies for ADHD have to be?

The best natural remedies for ADHD can be either an alternative remedy, which is one that is used instead of conventional medication or a complementary therapy, which is one that works safely alongside conventional medication.
A complementary approach means that it is so safe and so simple that the worst thing it can do is not work and there is absolutely no danger of any side effects or interactions with any drug regime that the patient might already be taking.
HET, otherwise known as Holistic Educational Therapy is a fully comprehensive and integrated approach involving a number of complementary therapies. These are very specific and are introduced at different stages in the programme which is aligned with how we all learn and how these experiences affect are lives and prevent us from living our full potential.
The pioneer of HET, Linda Porter worked for some time as the national training and development officer for the British Complementary Medicine Association and was involved with the establishment of standards in complementary medicine at that time. In fact the whole training programme for practitioners in HET has been developed around these standards, something called a NOS or National Occupational Standard is in place for all practitioners and trainers in this therapy in order to monitor and evaluate the success of the programme on an individual basis.
Until now, this approach has only been available to professional organisations working with supporting a case load of young people with challenging behaviours like ADHD, Autism etc. Due to the impact of an economic recession, further cutbacks in public spending have resulted in these essential services either being cut or reduced, at a time when children and families are in greater need than ever as the social impact of dealing with behavioural problems in young people worsens by the day.
The successful, award winning and OFSTED commended HET programme has now been made available directly to parents on line, after 10 years of professional application in the educational, social and health care sectors.

Realistic alternatives for ADHD?

There is no one single alternative therapy for ADHD. Any successful programme has to be integrated and designed to be totally supportive of the individual concerned and it will need to address all aspects of the condition to be effective. For example, the emotional responses to things that go on around people with ADHD. The impulsivity or the impatience and fidgeting and levels of frustration when they are unable to complete the task or maintain focus. This has a knock on effect on confidence, self esteem and motivation levels. All of these are addressed by the Bach Flower remedies. This are safe and simple and amazingly effective often producing positive responses within a few days of taking the natural remedy drops that were introduced by a Harley street doctor in the 1930’s.
I have observed children in schools with high ceilings where the acoustics are very poor and echo and amplify. This means that some children cannot information process properly in such a compromised hearing situation. The reasons for this could be many, including an early undiagnosed glue ear condition. When this is the case I have seen some amazing result s with Hopi ear therapy. This primarily helps the chid to relax but also can help, with sound overload which is often the case for ADHD children in busy noisy classrooms.
A lot of fingers point to one reason for ADHD symptoms, for example diet. Change the diet, take that supplement and it will all be OK? Diet is a big consideration in relieving symptoms of ADHD but often it is not just diet alone which is why an effective alternative to ADHD will look at sensitivities to different foods and additives alongside other lifestyle considerations.
One of the most important aspects of a successful alternative is to help the child concerned to relax. This is one of the major symptoms of this condition which affects everything else going n in that child’s life.
The one programme that supports all of these criteria for an effective ADHD alternative is the award winning and OFSTED commended HET – Holistic Educational Therapy programme. The therapeutic approaches are linked to an out of school alternative educational programme which includes environmental and eco projects as well as a HET PET Therapy. In addition to which it contains a structure for evaluating success and progress throughout the whole HET programme.
Supported by a fully interactive website with many FREE downloadable materials and optional online therapist support on a 1:1 basis – HET offers a true ADHD alternative.

ADHD the Natural Way

ADHD, the natural way forward: There is light at the end of the tunnel for those who are desperately seeking a natural ADHD alternative.
Children with behavioural problems happens to be my life’s work!
HET is a natural comprehensive therapy programme which has helped numerous children and their families.
What’s more, your response to this article will assist young people and families who desperately need help to get exactly that over the phone and the internet. It could enable them to access professionals who are training in HET approaches and supporting families in their own homes.
Through the Snow Friends project, which is one part of the comprehensive HET programme, we are looking to reunite Daisy and Ruby(the snow friends) back together. Then we can set up another webcam and take out their stories together again on line regularly for families and children.
This is part of a natural curriculum that children with ADHD and other behavioural challenges learn best in. Traditionally children with these problems do not learn well when cooped up in overcrowded classrooms.
Stories like Willow, (which is freely downloadable from the site), and the HET Pet programme which starts where willow’s story finishes, are all designed to help children help themselves through an integrated comprehensive 12 step natural therapy programme. Each step of the way is evaluated for its impact and effectiveness and in this way it is possible to develop a tool box for life approach.
The remedies and therapies include the Bach Flower remedies for emotional management, simple therapies for dealing with core issues, negative patterns, family dynamics, relaxation techniques, cellular support, diet and lifestyle are all covered within this comprehensive programme which has won awards and commendations for it’s effectiveness and innovation.
Monthly on line packages are now available to help parents as well as regular webinars and online personal therapies,.
HET has something to help anyone, including the stress of other family members and forms a complete ADHD natural package for and other behavioural support.
